Frequently Asked Questions

We believe in full transparency, and it is our hope the questions & information noted below will give you answers to an extensive list of important topics to consider when booking our wedding venue.

What Kind Of Wedding Venue Is West Country Weddings?

West Country Weddings is a seasonal, backcountry wedding venue located in Central Alberta on private land within Clearwater County’s protected forest region. We specialize in full weekend wedding experiences that prioritize time, space, connection, and the beauty of the outdoors. This is not a traditional banquet hall. Our setting is intentionally natural, thoughtfully limited, and beautifully designed for couples who value meaningful experiences over convenience.

When Are You Open?

Opening in July of 2027, we will then operate seasonally from May 1st through September 30th each year thereafter, hosting weddings on weekends only. This season offers Alberta’s best weather, longest daylight hours, and the most reliable conditions for outdoor celebrations.

Onsite access refers to use of designated venue areas during the hours outlined within your package. Access does not include private residence areas or non-designated spaces.

What does “onsite access” mean?

Do you host more than one wedding per weekend?

No. We host only one wedding per weekend, allowing each couple exclusive use of the venue and designated land during their contracted rental period.

Is there a commercial kitchen onsite?

No. West Country Weddings does not operate a commercial kitchen. Food service may be provided through pre-cooked self-serve options, licensed caterers, food trucks, or mobile kitchen providers. All food must be prepared in accordance with Alberta Health Services standards. There are many vendors available in the area who are experienced in rural wedding service. A covered outdoor kitchen is available on one of the verandas for light food preparation, coffee service, and late-night snacks.

Can we bring in our own caterer or food truck?

Yes. Couples are welcome to bring in caterers or food trucks of their choosing. We are also happy to provide guidance and recommendations for vendors familiar with outdoor and rural venue logistics.

Do you provide alcohol or bartending services?

No. Alcohol service is the responsibility of the couple.

Couples are required to:

-Obtain the appropriate liquor licence

-Use or hire bartenders with ProServe certification

-Carry wedding insurance that includes Party Alcohol Liability (PAL) coverage

Further details will be discussed and outlined within your contract.

Are there any additional alcohol policies we should be aware of?

Alcohol is permitted within most areas of the property and will be outlined during your booking.

Glass bottles are not permitted, other than at personal campsites, with the exception of wine served at tables. Alcohol service must end one hour prior to venue closing.

What happens with our ceremony if the weather doesn't cooperate?

Outdoor ceremonies are weather dependent. We all know how Alberta can be. While West Country Weddings cannot guarantee outdoor conditions or assume responsibility for weather-related disruptions, we do have contingency plans in place to transition ceremonies into the reception venue when required due to inclement weather.

Your package includes an onsite venue host whose role is limited to:

-Property access guideline support

-Environmental and safety oversight

- Weather related ceremony location changes

This role does not include wedding coordination, timeline management, or vendor direction.

Wedding day coordinators are available through third-party professionals.

Is there an onsite coordinator?

Yes. Your rental includes thirteen unserviced campsites for two nights, each accommodating one RV or trailer along with up to two tents per site. One of those sites is reserved for the bride and groom.

Guests using RV sites are responsible for bringing their own camping equipment and supplies.

* There are two campgrounds located kitty-corner to the property for overflow camping accommodations. Please note these bookings are the responsibility of individual guests, are subject to availability, and involve additional fees paid directly to the campgrounds. Both campgrounds are independently operated and are not affiliated with West Country Weddings.

Can guests stay overnight?

Can vehicles be left overnight?

Yes. Vehicles may remain onsite overnight, even if guests are not staying, provided they are removed within the contracted rental period. We strongly encourage couples to arrange transportation for guests consuming alcohol.

Are pets allowed?

No. For the safety of guests, wildlife, and livestock, dogs and other pets are not permitted onsite.

Are there noise restrictions?

Yes. Quiet hours are observed from 12:00 AM to 7:00 AM. Amplified sound and generators are not permitted during these hours.

Failure to comply may result in intervention or deductions from the damage deposit.

What environmental guidelines should we be aware of?

West Country Weddings operates within a protected forest area. All guests are expected to follow environmental and wildlife protection policies, including:

-No campfires (with the exception of the communal fire pit)

-Personal propane fire pits are allowed at campsites when fire bans are not in effect

-Bear smart practices should be practiced at all times

-Respect for designated off-limit areas and river safety boundaries is required

These guidelines are for the safety of our guests and part of our stewardship and respect for the land.

Yes. A deposit is required to secure your wedding weekend. There is also a refundable damage deposit required for all bookings, which is due 14 days prior to your weekend booking commencing.

Deposit amounts, refund timelines, and deduction conditions will be outlined within your contract.

Is a deposit required?

Yes. Couples must provide proof of event insurance, including Party Alcohol Liability (PAL) coverage, prior to the event. We will provide you further details for this requirement.

Is insurance required?

Yes. We are happy to provide a preferred vendor list for catering, photography, transportation, accommodations, and additional wedding services.

Do you recommend vendors or accommodations?

What's Included with our package?

West Country Weddings has an extensive list of inclusions with your wedding package, which can be rarely found with other venues. For a list of what's included, please visit 'The Haven Experience' page.

When Are You Taking Bookings?

While our official launch and booking options will not be till Fall 2026, (when we have completed all of our venue projects) we are open to some pre-launch site visits to see if our vision aligns with your plans. Please contact us to learn more.

As we have already noted, West Country Weddings is set within a protected forest area. There are uneven pathways and trails throughout the property, and it is highly recommended that flat, comfortable shoes be worn by all guests when not in the main venue itself.

Is there anything else we should know?

West Country Weddings is a great fit for couples who:

-Love Camping

-Want a relaxed, outdoor-focused full weekend wedding experience

-Value time, privacy, and meaningful connection with family and friends

-Appreciate natural surroundings and a non-urban setting

-Understand that respecting the land is part of the celebration experience

We may not be the right fit for couples seeking:

-A fully staffed venue
